Safe Hydrogen Canada Corporation: Building Canada's New Safe Hydrogen Trade Corridor
Learn more about MapleH²NextUnlocking Canada's Hydrogen Opportunity
Canada is one of the world's most capable hydrogen producers. But production capacity alone will not secure Canada's position as a global hydrogen leader.
For the last decade strict regulatory constraints imposed by Transport Canada and Natural Resources Canada have restricted the use of ammonia as a bulk hydrogen carrier for transportation on the national rail network due to environmental concerns.
What the Canadian hydrogen industry has been desperately seeking is the ability to safely store and to transport hydrogen, reliably, and commercially at scale to the markets that need it at home and abroad.

Canadian Safe Hydrogen Trade Corridor Project
SHCC via its tri-provincial flagship initiative 'MapleH²Next' Canadian Safe Hydrogen Trade Corridor Project, have applied a new, entrepreneurial and holistic overview approach to removing the ammonia problem completely and replacing it with safe technologies, and in doing so have created a fully integrated hydrogen trade corridor platform advancing the infrastructure, policy, and commercial frameworks necessary to transport Canadian hydrogen across the platform using the national rail network, safely and at industrial scale, linking Alberta's industrial heartland hydrogen producers to Pacific and Atlantic export gateways, and positioning Canada as a trusted supplier to priority global markets in Asia Pacific and Europe.
The key to the entire 'MapleH²Next' project is the removal of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier and its replacement with safe technologies for national and global distribution across the platform.
Who We Are
SHCC is a Canadian technology supply and facilitator organisation advancing the safe, commercially viable deployment of hydrogen storage, transportation, and export infrastructure across Canada, engaging with federal and provincial governments, regulators, Indigenous communities, and wide ranging industry partners to advance the policies and the hydrogen production that will strengthen Canada's long-term competitiveness, sovereign energy security, and global trade relationships as industrial demand for hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives grows.
Our members and collaborative partners span the entire hydrogen value chain:
- Hydrogen producers
- Safe storage and transportation technology suppliers
- Rail and port operators
- Infrastructure financiers
- Policy experts
Together, we represent the full scope of expertise required to move Canadian industrial scale global hydrogen distribution from being a concept to a fully commercial operation.
Our Mission
Given the prevailing geo-political uncertainties, and with a keen focus on increasing Canadian sovereign energy security, SHCC considers it critical that Canada accelerates the development of safe, integrated, industrial scale hydrogen storage and transportation infrastructure that connects Canadian producers to both domestic and international markets.
SHCC's 'MapleH²Next' project works at the intersection of safety, technology innovation, trade policy, and economic development to help remove the barriers that stand between Canada's real hydrogen potential and its commercial realisation. In doing so it will create new highly skilled jobs, attract inward investment, and establish Canada as a trusted global hydrogen supplier and SHCC are actively advancing policy conditions necessary for hydrogen to become a cornerstone of Canada's economic future and directly assist PM Carney in his goal to make Canada the leading G7 economy.
Hydrogen 'done right' generates long-term export revenue, diversifies our energy trade relationships, and strengthens Canada's position in a global energy system undergoing fundamental transformation.
'MapleH²Next' represents a practical, achievable, near-term path to global Canadian hydrogen exports, built on infrastructure that already exists, technologies that are already certified internationally, and increasing market demand at home and abroad.
SHCC is helping build the new Canadian hydrogen future now.
